Come join Nuala on Sunday 23 February 2025 from 9am-1pm for a beautiful Wellbeing Walk around Banagher Forest.

Nestled in the Sperrin Mountains of County Derry, Banagher Forest and its nearby Altnaheglish Reservoir (Banagher Dam) offer a perfect setting for our Sunday Morning Wellbeing Walk.

The forest is a designated Special Area of Conservation making it an inspiring destination for anyone seeking peace, nature and mindfulness.

We’ll begin our walk through Banagher Glen - one of the oldest surviving ancient woodlands in Northern Ireland. Here, the gnarled trees and lush undergrowth transports you to a timeless, almost mythical setting. Ancient oaks and birch trees tower overhead, creating a green canopy. Streams and waterfalls cascade over mossy rocks, their gentle babble adding a meditative soundtrack to your walk.

After the quiet intimacy of the forest, we’ll ascend the path which opens up to reveal Altnaheglish Reservoir, also known as Banagher Dam. The sight is breathtaking: a vast expanse of clear, shimmering water surrounded by rolling hills and rugged landscapes.

The dam itself is a marvel, blending engineering with the natural beauty of the area. You’ll feel a sense of awe as we mindfully walk along the reservoir track taking mindful moments to stop, breathe, connect and reflect. We’ll let the expanse of water and sky inspire a sense of calm and connectedness.

Leaving the reservoir, we’ll follow the well-marked trails winding up through the forest. On a clear day, we’ll catch a glimpse of the surrounding Sperrin Mountains and rolling countryside perhaps even out toward Binevenagh and the Donegal Hills.

As you make your way back to the cars, we’ll take a few final deep breaths and let the tranquility of the forest and dam settle within you. The exercise and movement combined with the soothing power of nature will leave you feeling refreshed, centred and at peace.

There will be 15 spaces and it is £15.00pp.

A basic level of fitness is required and proper walking shoes are mandatory.
