Join Nuala on Sunday 18 January 2026 from 9am to 1pm on a Wellbeing Hike along the spectacular Carntogher Way – Slí An Chairn. A beautiful 6 mile looped trail that starts and ends in Slaughtneil just above Maghera.

A Wellbeing Hike along the Carntogher Way is an opportunity to reconnect with nature, slow down, and find peace in the stunning landscapes of County Derry.

This trail, nestled within the Sperrin Mountains, provides the perfect blend of gentle movement, fresh air, and mindfulness, making it ideal for stress relief and personal reflection. It is an area rich in mythology and archaeological heritage.

The path opens up to rolling hills and heather-covered moorland. With each step, we’ll focus on our breath, matching it to our footsteps. We’ll feel the rhythm of our body moving in harmony with the land. We’ll bring awareness to the present moment, appreciating the well-trodden paths, the scent of peat, and the touch of the breeze on our faces.

Reaching the summit (464m) is a powerful moment—we’ll stand still and take in the expansive views over the Sperrins, Lough Neagh, and beyond. We’ll close our eyes for a moment and feel the vastness of the landscape around us.

Then as we begin our descent, we’ll allow our bodies to fully relax as we meander through open moorland and farmland, offering space to appreciate the simple beauty of the land.

A Wellbeing Hike on the Carntogher Way isn’t just about exercise—it’s a chance to nurture your body, clear your mind, connect deeply with nature and other like-minded people.

This is a moderate level hike for everyone with a moderate level of fitness.

Each walker will require a minimum amount of equipment which includes: Walking shoes/boots; Waterproof clothing; Backpack with water, food and any other essential items. We also highly recommend walking poles!
