Join Nuala for a Winter Solstice Sunrise Walk on Saturday 21 December 2024 at Eglinton Embankment.

The Winter Solstice Sunrise marks the beginning of the shortest day but also the return of the light with its promise of growth, renewal, and brighter days ahead.

The sky will still be dark as we set off towards Lough Foyle with the crisp and cold air filling our lungs with an invigorating freshness. Wrap up warm and bring your head torch just in case (we have lots of spare ones if you don’t have a head torch).

As we walk, we’ll witness the sounds of the birds waking with the day and as we approach the seawall, the horizon will hopefully begin to transform and (fingers crossed), we’ll get to witness the rising sun out over the Sperrin Mountains as it casts its first rays over the land, the Foyle and the hills of Donegal.

We’ll pause for some moments together, taking it all in—the beauty, the stillness, the sense of renewal that accompanies the shortest day of the year. We’ll share a sacred moment together in reverence for Mother Earth and the turning of the seasons.

As the sun climbs higher and our senses fully awaken, we’ll continue our walk feeling more grounded and more connected to the natural rhythms of the earth.

Our walk and time together, though simple, will leave you deeply nourished—body, mind, and spirit. We’ll return to our cars carrying the warmth of the rising sun within and our positive intentions for the longer days ahead.
