I hope you are enjoying the Bank Holiday Monday if you are in the UK. It’s a gentle easy-paced day here in Limavady for me allowing the body to recover after yesterday’s hiking adventure.
So just a short update today whilst I have my feet up with a comforting cuppa in hand!
You Can Do It
Last summer, one of my regular hiking buddies suggested we hike the Seven Sisters in the Derryveagh Mountains in Donegal. At the time we were returning to Magheroarty from a visit to Tory Island. The seven summits were all laid out in a row for us and it seemed a long long way from the start point at Muckish Mountain to the end point on Errigal Mountain.
At the time, I was unsure if I could actually do that hike - if I had the fitness level - if I had the stamina - there were definitely a few doubts whizzing around my head.
But yesterday with the right preparation, the right nutrition, the right “I can do it” attitude, we gave it a try. After approx 24km across 2000m of elevation and 10hrs hiking - we did it! It was definitely a challenge but feeling super-satisfied and super-grateful today. Have a look here at a short souvenir reel I put together.
So I wonder if there is something that you would like to do? What is stopping you? What limiting beliefs are getting in the way? What preparation is required? Start now where you are and begin. You can! This is your reminder that YOU CAN DO ANYTHING!
Guided Walks & Adventures
It has been a great week leading Guided Walks along the Causeway Coast and in the Sperrin Mountains. Our first Zen Walk of the summer was around Downhill Forest and Estate. The abundance of the wild garlic, the duckings on Downhill pond, the hugging of the Giant Spruce, the standing meditation amongst the bluebells, the sunset watching from Mussenden Temple - such a beautiful evening of mindfulness, peace, calm and connection.
On Saturday we arrived at the base of Dart Mountain in thick grey cloud and significantly reduced visibility. All my skills from my Hill & Moorland Leader Training were put to good use as we ascended up through the bogs. But what struck me the most was the joy. Even in the midst of challenging weather and hiking conditions, all I could hear from the women that joined me was laughter as we ascended to the summit of Sawel Mountain - the County High Point of Derry and Tyrone. Have a look here.
We return to Roe Valley Country Park this Thursday for a Zen Walk through the bluebells and then we head to Ballycastle on Saturday to hike the cliffs of Fairhead - do not miss this! It would be great to see you and walk with you again.
Enjoy the rest of the Bank Holiday. I’m off for a much-needed massage.
Be well
